When Custom Design Matters

I was recently chatting with an industry partner, and we both agreed that the word luxury is overused. Luxury used to convey a level of detail and importance. Now it feels like a catchword, or a casual way of saying "better". In all fairness, I don't align with the word luxury.
Rather, I align with the word custom or bespoke. When designing a custom home, every detail, every part of that house, is built by hand. It is the definition of custom and bespoke. It was crafted for a client, in a setting (valley, on the beach, etc.), for a specific family for a specific person (second home, primary home). And it will endure past a lifetime.

The house you are building will last a lifetime, and hopefully longer. It will be the house your children's children will come to, will speak softly in rooms, cook breakfast by the light of morning, and gaze out at the night sky upon the porch. Everything from the way the bathroom is designed to the tile selected in that space is custom to you. Or the way the kitchen sink is placed a certain distance from the range and the way spices are organized, is based on your personal kitchen preferences. Design and architecture are living, custom art. And in the world of new construction and custom homes, custom and bespoke go hand in hand.
And that's why it pays to get it right the first time - it will outlast you.
